How to Make an Autumn Rag Rug
By: Lori Gray
Lori Gray has some serious talent with all things fabric, thread and crochet. Here she shares how to make a crocheted rag rug for autumn.
All you need to make this great rug are 2 jelly rolls and a 11.5 size crochet hook.
Step 1 - Cut the selvage end off of each 2.5 inch strip.
Step 2 - Cut each strip in half leaving about an inch uncut on one end to keep strip joined. Here is a picture of a strip cut in half with one end still joined.
Step 3 - Sew all the strips together at the ends.
Step 4 - Roll all the connected strips into a big ball.
Step 5 - For this step it helps to have some crochet experience. You do not have to be an expert and it would not be hard to find someone who could show you how. First you would start by making a single chain of 20 stitches. You will want your chain to be about 12 inches long. I have included a picture of what your 2 inch chain would look like.
Step 6 - Then form a circle with the chain by making a slip stitch into your first chain. This will be the tight center circle of your rug.
Ta Da!!! How great does that look!!! I love the fall colors of the Sandy Gervais's fabric line from Moda aptly named "Awesome" and I love the way this rug turned out!
