Fall Glam — High End DIY Chrome

What is that saying “Good ideas are born from necessity?” I was in big need of something to elevate a large vintage mirror I had just purchased when I came up with this project.

All you need is a log {the snarlier the better}. Luckily for us we live in Southern Utah and this is one of the few times I am grateful for all of the wild open space and driftwood. A little hunting into our pine forests and here is what I found:

To make your own glam driftwood you will need.

Some metallic paint of your choice. I chose chrome to make the perfect juxtaposition with the aged gold mirror.

A spray can will work but you will use a lot. I suggest using a cup gun. These start at $100 and are great for small projects and in the end it will cost less than spray paint.

Prep your log. I did very little to prep the wood, just used air from my compressor to get rid of as much dust as possible.

Fill up the cup gun and get started spraying in a well-ventilated area. The log will absorb a large amount of paint due to it being raw wood.

Customize Your Look: If you want it to feel like a solid metallic piece, spray several coats or you can spray lighter to achieve a more shimmery look.

Here are a few other ideas you could do with this same concept.

A foot stool or side table. These can run up to $399

This may take hunting for the right log but a version of the Zgallery console or entry table would be sublime!

This table is almost $1,000. Think of the money you could save!
